Sibiu sightseeing: plan the squares, towers and forest museum
Sibiu's sights cluster tightly in the old citadel, where Piața Mare and Piața Mică sit a footbridge apart and the Council Tower rises between them. Almost everything else is a short walk from those two squares, with the Lutheran cathedral tucked into Huet Square and the Orthodox cathedral on str. Mitropoliei.
The exception is the ASTRA Museum, a village of original houses and sheepfolds spread across 96 hectares of Dumbrava Forest, 4 km from the centre. Its 10 km walking circuit needs half a day and a plan for getting there, so treat it as a separate outing rather than an add-on to a square-by-square stroll.
Several stops cost nothing: the Large Square has no admission charge, the Small Square is a free public space, and the Orthodox cathedral welcomes visitors by donation. Others reward timing. The Brukenthal gallery opens Wednesday to Sunday and its ticket desk shuts at 17:15, while the Pharmacy Museum closes on Monday and Tuesday and sells its last ticket at 17:30.

Orthodox Cathedral Sibiu: Visiting the Holy Trinity Cathedral

Pairing the squares with the towers and churches
Start in Piața Mare, the paved hinge of the old town, then cross the Bridge of Lies into Piața Mică. The Council Tower stands at Piața Mică 1, and the climb past its exhibition floors ends with a rooftop view over the Lesser Square's houses with eyes. Allow an hour or so for the tower.
From the Small Square, walk down to str. Mitropoliei for the Orthodox cathedral, or head up to Huet Square for the Lutheran cathedral. The Brukenthal and History museums both sit on Piața Mare, so save them for a return pass rather than trying to see every interior in one circuit.
What to reserve before you travel
Booking is recommended for the ASTRA Museum in Dumbrava Forest, where the scale of the site makes a little forward planning worthwhile. Gates are described as open all year, day and night, but confirm night access and closing days before travelling.
Elsewhere, simply check opening hours rather than reserve: the Brukenthal gallery keeps Wednesday to Sunday hours with a 17:15 ticket cut-off, and the Pharmacy Museum is shut on Monday and Tuesday. The Lutheran cathedral's opening times shift with the church calendar and tower access is confirmed only on site.
